Aumijo S. Gomes

Director of Program Operations

Aumijo S. Gomes has over ten years of experience in the field of youth development. Originally from San Francisco, he began working with young people while in high school serving as an assistant to a range of educational programs. Originally planning to pursue a career in clinical psychology, he attended The George Washington University where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Psychology in 1995. In 1997 he was award a Masters in Psychology from The New York University.
 
Starting in 1998, Aumijo began working for The Japanese Community Youth Council, a San Francisco based multi-service youth organization. He was originally hired as a direct service staff person for San Francisco YouthWorks, an award-winning internship program for high school students. Quickly rising through the ranks, Aumijo became the Assistant Director of YouthWorks in 1999 and was promoted to Director in 2001. Under his leadership, the YouthWorks program employed over 4000 San Francisco youth, engaged over 400 city employees as worksite mentors and was recognized with a PEPNet Award from the National Youth Employment Coalition for its promising and effective practices. Aumijo joined the Kanye West Foundation in 2009 bringing with him a commitment to the positive development of young people, a love of music and a desire to find ways to merge the two to create opportunities for growth and development.
